Ford Falcon PCMTec - ZF Tune

The Ford ZF 6 Speed Auto calibration can be extremely overwhelming, and just like any tuning it should be respected because an incorrect change can cause a catastrophic failure. This Product is a PCMTec Parameter file which provides you with a great base file to help your ZF handle more torque, feel crisper to drive under higher loads and still cruise nice and comfortable like a modern auto should.

Your ECU is constantly monitoring the torque that the engine is producing, it relays this data (along with much more) to the TCU or Transmission Computer. The TCU has overall torque limits under certain conditions (e.g. each gear) which if the Engine torque reaches this value the TCU tells the ecu to limit the torque to this value, the ECU then determines the best way to reduce the torque. Similarly, the TCU has Torque reductions for gear changes, this value is complex and is different based on load, rpm and gear. The TCU will request that the ECU reduce torque by X amount for X amount of time to achieve the correct torque for the gear change.

Your stock ZF (in good health) is capable of handing 400rwkw for a prolonged period, the further past this that you go, the quicker it is going to deteriorate. If your going to run sticky tires and punish the car at the track your weak link is always going to be your input shaft, followed by your overdrive pack, planetary and converter. You should Avoid Kick Downs at all costs, this is the most common cause of input shaft snapping and there is only so much that can be done to save it within the calibration.

What is a kickdown? if your cruising along at 80kmh in Auto its likely in 6th gear, if you jump on the throttle it will kick down from 6th gear to 2nd gear, the shock and load created from this will nearly guarantee a broken input shaft. Instead of this, if you know that your going to accelerate quickly, overtake, or race from a roll, put it in manual mode and change down the gears yourself, select the correct gear for the road speed and your setup and then your good to go!
